Sokuon

Sokuon is a pause (no sound) between two syllables.

Sokuon is indicated by (small tsu). But you don't pronounce it.

In Rōmaji, Sokuon is indicated by an extra consonant letter of the following syllable.

How to Read (Example: おっと)

  1. Right after the sound お, your mouth should be ready for the next sound と.
  2. Hold your breath for one letter long.
  3. Then pronounce the sound と.
